2011 Fall FYSA Academy News

Date Anouncement
Nov. 10, 2011 The DPW emailed FYSA asking that the start times of all games be delayed this weekend because of the frost. Frozen blades of grass are permanently damaged and with Remington being taken offline for an entire year for repairs, permanent damage is unacceptable. The playoff schedule hasn't been updated yet but it will be within the next 24 hours. Please check it before heading to the field this weekend. Sorry for the last minute inconvenience but it's unavoidable.
Nov. 7, 2011 The Playoff Standings are up-to-date. Coaches -- please verify the results. If you notice anything that's incorrect, notify the Academy Director.
Oct. 26, 2011 The Playoff Schedule has been modified for teams 8 (Mosher, Liverpool), 9 (Checkoway, AC Milan), 10 (Parikos, Franklin Jr G 10), 11 (Robinson, NE Revolution), 12 (Kaplan, DC United). All changes are highlighted in grey
Nov. 1, 2011 King St. is closed Tuesday, Nov. 1st. All training is cancelled.
Oct. 31, 2011 King St. is closed Monday, Oct. 31st. All training is cancelled.
Oct. 26, 2011 The Playoff Schedule is up-to-date. But if 6 more 6v6 nets aren't moved from King to Remington, the playoff schedule will change one more time.
Oct. 26, 2011 A Playoff Rules page has been added to the Academy website. It contains everything you need to know about the end-of-season playoffs.
Oct. 18, 2011 The Playoff Schedule is up-to-date. Depending upon this weeks results, there may be some last minute modifications.
Oct. 18, 2011 There have been a couple of last minute modifications to the Schedules page involving teams 5 (Chicago Fire), 10 (Franklin Jr G 10) & 11 (NE Revolution). Please check the schedule before going to the field. The changes are highlighted in grey.
Oct. 14, 2011 Weeks 7 & 8 have been added to the Schedules page.
Oct. 13, 2011 Remington is closed this weekend because of all the rain. All Academy games scheduled Saturday, Oct. 15th have been moved to King St. Most are at a different time. Please check the schedule before going to the field. The changes are highlighted in grey.
Sept. 30, 2011 Junior Boys teams 16, 21, 22 & 26 have been moved to a different league based on further coach feedback. The Teams, the Standings and the Schedules pages have all been updated to reflect these changes. The changes are highlighted in grey.
Sept. 29, 2011 Travel make up games have been scheduled at King St. on the following dates & times. If your team is impacted by any of these games, please contact your parents and schedule your training session at Remington or after 7pm at King St.
  • Friday, Sept. 30th -- King St. 8v8 at 5pm
  • Friday, Sept. 30th -- King St. 11v11 at 5pm
  • Wednesday, Oct. 5th -- King St. 8v8 at 5pm
  • Thursday, Oct. 6th -- King St. 8v8 at 5pm
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11th -- King St. 8v8 at 5pm

  • Friday, Oct. 14th -- King St. 6v6 at 5pm
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19th -- King St. 11v11 at 5pm
Sept. 27, 2011 Most of the Junior Girls & Junior Boys team has been moved to a different league this week based on standings and coach feedback. The reason for the moves is twofold:
  1. to lessen the likelihood of blowouts [as we saw many times weeks 1-3], and
  2. to provide teams with more suitable competition on a weekly basis going forward
The Teams, the Standings and the Schedules pages have all been updated to reflect these changes. Will all team placements be right? Probably not. But we'll keep an eye on it in the next few weeks and make further adjustments as needed.
Sept. 22, 2011 Week 2 Standings have been updated.
Sept. 20, 2011 Time change for team 29 & team 30 on Saturday, Sept. 24th. Please check the Schedules page for details.
Sept. 19, 2011 For the second time, the Standings from week 1 have been updated because a mistake was found in one of the reported scores. Please take a look at your standings each week. If there's a mistake, email Stephen Colman ASAP.
Sept. 16, 2011 Aside from the confusion that resulted from 2 out of the 5 Remington fields being closed at the last minute, I hope you enjoyed the first game of the 2011 fall season. Here are a few things to keep in mind on game day.
Modified rules specific to Junior Girls/Boys:
  • On a goal kick, the ball can not cross the half line without touching the ground first. If it does, the defending team receives an indirect kick from the spot where the ball crossed.
  • On a goal kick, play is live on the receipt -- not on the kick. The defending team is required to drop back to the hash marks located 15-20 yards from the penalty box. If the defending team touches the ball first between the hash marks and the penalty box, the attacking team gets an indirect kicks where the infraction occurred. If, on the otherhand, the defending team touches the ball first between the half line and the hash marks, no infraction has occurred and play continues.
  • On a punt, the ball can not cross the half line without touching the ground first. If it does, the defending team receives an indirect kick from the spot where the ball crossed.
While on the sideline:
  • Coaches and spectators must be on opposite sides of the field. One side of the field is designated for coaches. The other is designated for spectators. See the Fields page of the Academy website for specifics.
  • Coaches must stay on the half of the field they start the game from. They must not venture onto the other half unless asked to do so by the opposing coach.
  • Coaches must keep their players on their half of the field, at least 5 yards away from the half so the referee can immediately identify who's substituting in and who's not.
  • Coaches must not enter the field of play unless asked to do so by the referee.
Game day coaching:
  • When it comes to coaching, less is more. You've all heard it, now put it into practice -- "let the game be the teacher".
  • Identify no more than 3 things to correct during the half time break.
  • Whatever it is that you say during the break -- keep it brief.
Technical vs. Tactical:
  • The Academy is about technical development. It's unrealistic to think you can go an entire season without teaching kids anything tactical but it's not what's emphasized.
  • Assigning positions is less important than telling them to "attack as a group and defend as a group".
  • Challenge your players. If they've just beaten 2 players 1v1, tell them to beat 3.
Sept. 16, 2011 Please move the goals off the field and near the edge of the woods on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The Franklin DPW mows King Street complex Thursday and/or Friday.
Sept. 14, 2011 Standings from week 1 have been updated. I'm still waiting for 1 score. It's highlighted in red.
Sept. 13, 2011 Two New England Revolution players will be available for pictures and autographs on Monday, October 3rd, 2011 from 5:00pm-6:30pm at King Street. Please put it on your calendar and if your schedule allows, please bring your kids. It's sure to be fun for everyone.
Sept. 8, 2011 All Academy practices at King St. on Thursday, Sept. 8th are cancelled.
Sept. 7, 2011 All Academy practices at King St. on Wednesday, Sept. 7th are cancelled.
Sept. 7, 2011 Starting Monday, Sept. 12th -- the start time for Monday & Thursday FSS training has changed to 5:15pm and 6:00pm. See the Coaches or Teams page for details. The Board apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause you but it's to prevent 3rd graders from training until 8:00pm. We hope you understand.
Sept. 7, 2011 The protocol for cancelling practice is as follows:
  • the "lead" makes the decision
  • the "lead" contacts all of the coaches in the training group
  • the "lead" contacts FSS
  • each coach within the training group contacts his/her players
Aug. 31, 2011 Changes have been made to the Schedules page. All changes are highlighted in grey.
Aug. 19, 2011 MYSA requires everyone who works with and around children to be CORI checked. Before anyone can coach or assistant in anyway, they must be CORI'ed. Please contact Sandy Frongillo at info@franklinyouthsoccer.org" for specifics. She's the CORI administrator for FYSA.
